What I bring to your Ottawa room
Ottawa programs are association conferences, federal and NGO town halls, awards galas and downtown hotel general sessions. I run rooms at that scale and above: a 10,000-person Hilton general session, Jaguars gamedays at EverBank Stadium, three Super Bowls, and Fortune 500 general sessions for Google, Amazon, Salesforce, PayPal, Pepsi, the United Nations, AT&T and CDW. An Ottawa association conference gets the same run of show, the same name-pronunciation pass and the same full cue-to-cue before doors as any of them.
What a corporate emcee does that a “host” from the agenda cannot
Ottawa programs skew toward national associations, federal and Crown-agency town halls and Kanata tech launches. The audience has sat through a thousand introductions. The emcee’s job is to make the schedule hold and the room stay awake, not to be the star.
| Moment in the program | What I am doing |
|---|---|
| Doors and walk-in | DJing the room to the energy the opening needs, then bringing the house to order on time without a producer having to beg. |
| Executive handoffs | Short, accurate introductions, names pronounced right, sponsor reads delivered as written, and the clock protected when a speaker runs long. |
| Awards block | Pacing thirty names so the room still cares about the thirtieth, with walk-up music matched to each winner. |
| The dead spot | When the laptop dies or the caterer is late, the interactive team-building show fills the gap on purpose instead of by accident. |
| Reception | The same person who ran the general session DJs the party, so the energy never resets and there is one contract, one point of contact. |
That is the 3-in-1: DJ, emcee and a one-man team-building show. Planners book one vendor instead of three, and the person on the microphone has already run the room since doors.
Why Ottawa rooms are busier than they look
Canada’s capital is a G7 meetings market with a heavy association and government calendar, and the strongest downtown venues book out around convention weeks. The size of the market is not a guess.
- Canada’s capital welcomes an estimated 9.8 million visitors annually who spend $2.6 billion in the community. (Source: Ottawa Tourism media release, September 9, 2025)
- Ottawa Tourism’s 2025 annual report logs 2,885,303 room nights booked, up 3 percent, with business events attracting more delegates and room nights year over year. (Source: Ottawa Tourism Annual Report 2025)
- As a G7 capital, Ottawa hosts 170+ embassies, missions and federal institutions, and 65 federal research labs, which is why the meetings calendar is heavy on associations and government-adjacent groups. (Source: Ottawa Tourism, Business Events)
The practical takeaway: if your date sits on a citywide-convention week or in the fall association season, lock the host before the venue fills the calendar. Sixty to ninety days is comfortable for everything else.

What it costs to book a corporate emcee in Ottawa
My rates are published, so there is nothing to negotiate around. Half day is $5,000. Full day is $8,000. Rehearsal-only is $1,000. Multi-day programs get $1,000 off each additional day after day one. Virtual hosting is $2,300 for the first hour and $2,000 each additional hour. Travel to Ottawa is coordinated as part of the booking so nothing lands on the planner’s plate.
An Ottawa association program usually needs the full day: general session in the morning, breakouts, an awards dinner and a reception. If the ask is only the evening, say so and the half-day rate applies. Travel from the United States is coordinated as part of the booking so nothing lands on the planner’s plate.
For Ottawa clients the same rates work out to roughly CA$7,000 for a half day, CA$11,000 for a full day, CA$1,500 for a rehearsal-only day and CA$3,250 for the first virtual hour at recent exchange rates. Contracts and invoices are issued in US dollars, so the Canadian figures move with the rate on the day.
Five questions to ask any corporate emcee, including me
- “Walk me through how you handle a run of show that slips 20 minutes.” A working emcee answers instantly and unemotionally. A voice-for-hire talks about their intro.
- “Who is riding the fader on my CEO’s microphone?” If nobody owns the podium feed, your executives will fight the room.
- “Show me footage of you talking to a corporate audience, not a dance floor.” Everyone has party clips. Very few have footage of holding a general session.
- “Can I have the name of the specific person performing, in the contract?” Essential with agencies and multi-host rosters.
- “What is not included in this number?” Staging, uplighting, LED, labor and travel move a quote enormously. Ask before you compare.
Frequently asked questions about booking a corporate emcee in Ottawa
Do you travel to Ottawa for corporate events?
Yes. Ottawa is a routine fly-in and travel is coordinated on my side as part of the booking, so flights and hotel never land on the planner’s plate. I arrive the day before any morning general session so weather never touches the run of show, and travel-day buffers are written into the contract.
Do you host bilingual English and French corporate programs in Ottawa?
Will hosts in English. Ottawa audiences routinely include federal and association delegates who expect both official languages on stage, so for a bilingual run of show the client provides a French-language co-host and Will works the hand-offs from a shared script. Ask before booking if your program requires a fully bilingual host.
What kinds of Ottawa events book a corporate emcee?
National association conferences, federal and Crown-agency town halls, tech-sector launches in Kanata, and awards galas. Ottawa hosts 170+ embassies, missions and federal institutions and 65 federal research labs, which is why the meetings calendar is heavy on associations and government-adjacent groups.
How much does a corporate emcee cost for an Ottawa event?
Half day US$5,000, full day US$8,000, rehearsal-only day US$1,000, and US$1,000 off each additional day after day one. Virtual hosting is US$2,300 for the first hour and US$2,000 each additional hour. At recent exchange rates that is roughly CA$7,000, CA$11,000, CA$1,500 and CA$3,250. Contracts and invoices are issued in US dollars.
Can you work the Rogers Centre Ottawa, the former Shaw Centre?
Yes. It offers over 192,000 sq. ft. of event space across four levels, with a Level Three hall for up to 4,320 delegates theatre-style, and it connects indoors to The Westin Ottawa and CF Rideau Centre, so load-in, rehearsal and green-room logistics stay under one roof. Will advances audio and staging with your AV crew and runs a full cue-to-cue before doors.
Which other Ottawa venues fit a corporate emcee program?
The Fairmont Chateau Laurier (16 venues, more than 36,000 sq. ft., 50 to 400 guests), The Westin Ottawa (33 meeting rooms, 48,700 square feet), the Ottawa Marriott (26 venues, 36,000 sq. feet), the Canadian Museum of History Grand Hall in Gatineau (600 seated, 1,000 cocktail, fixed stage with permanent audio and lighting) and the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata (Newbridge Ballroom 7,200 sq. ft., reception for 1,200). Each capacity on this page was checked against the venue’s own published numbers.
Do you take winter dates in Ottawa?
Yes. January through March conferences are common in the capital. Will schedules arrival the day before the event so weather never touches the run of show, and travel-day buffers are written into the contract.
You are based in the US. How does an Ottawa booking work?
Will travels from the United States for Canadian dates. Flights, hotel and ground are itemized in the quote so there are no surprises, and the client receives the contract and invoice through DocuSign and QuickBooks like any US booking. Travel is coordinated on Will’s side as part of the booking.
What is the difference between an emcee and a master of ceremonies for a conference?
Same job, two names. A conference emcee, or master of ceremonies, owns the clock, the transitions, the sponsor mentions and the energy between speakers. Will adds a DJ set and a one-man team-building show, so the same person who opens your general session can run the closing reception.
Do you host weddings in Ottawa?
Will’s calendar is built around corporate conferences, galas and awards nights. For a wedding in Ottawa, a local wedding MC will usually be the better fit and better value. Marketplace listings show more than a hundred MCs available in Ottawa at an average of about CA$650, which is a different product from a Fortune 500 conference host.
