Where I have hosted in New England
Island programs pull their guests from Boston, New York and Providence, and so do the rooms below. These are New England programs from my own records.
| When | The room |
|---|---|
| October 14-15, 2026 | Boys & Girls Clubs of America Northeast Leadership Conference, Providence, Rhode Island. Voice of Conference: emcee for every General Session and the Operation Impact party. The regional planning committee included the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club, and the Massachusetts roll call ran from Boston to the Berkshires, Cape Cod to the Islands. |
| June 9-10, 2025 | Allego, a two-day corporate program at the Renaissance Boston Seaport District hotel, booked under contract and paid in full. |
Each row is backed by a contract, certificate of insurance or event folder in my records. I do not list rooms I have not stood in.
What a corporate emcee does that a “host” from the agenda cannot
An island program is small, senior and personal. The CEO knows most of the room by name, the agenda changes when the ferry is late, and the welcome toast matters more than the keynote. The emcee’s job is to make a retreat feel effortless: hold the schedule, introduce leaders the way they want to be introduced, get quiet people talking, and hand the night to the dance floor without a gap.
| Moment in the program | What I am doing |
|---|---|
| Doors and walk-in | DJing the room to the energy the opening needs, then bringing the house to order on time without a producer having to beg. |
| Executive handoffs | Short, accurate introductions, names pronounced right, sponsor reads delivered as written, and the clock protected when a speaker runs long. |
| Awards block | Pacing thirty names so the room still cares about the thirtieth, with walk-up music matched to each winner. |
| The dead spot | When the laptop dies or the caterer is late, the interactive team-building show fills the gap on purpose instead of by accident. |
| Reception | The same person who ran the general session DJs the party, so the energy never resets and there is one contract, one point of contact. |
That is the 3-in-1: DJ, emcee and a one-man team-building show. Planners book one vendor instead of three, and the person on the microphone has already run the room since doors.
Why island programs need a host who plans ahead
Both islands are small towns most of the year and among the busiest places in New England every summer. That swing is the single biggest planning factor, and the numbers are not a guess.
- Martha’s Vineyard has a year-round population of about 20,530 (Martha’s Vineyard Commission, 2023), and the summer population swells to more than 200,000 people. About 56 percent of the Vineyard’s 14,621 homes are seasonally occupied. (Source: Wikipedia, Martha’s Vineyard (citing the Martha’s Vineyard Commission))
- Nantucket counted 14,255 residents in the 2020 census, the least populated county in Massachusetts, and the island’s population rises to around 80,000 during the summer months. (Source: Wikipedia, Nantucket (citing the U.S. Census Bureau))
- Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY) handled about 161,000 total passengers in 2024, and Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) logged 117,204 aircraft operations in 2025. (Source: Wikipedia, Martha’s Vineyard Airport (FAA data) and Nantucket Memorial Airport (Town of Nantucket enplanement report))
The practical takeaway: summer weekends on both islands sell out hotel rooms, ferry car reservations and vendors months ahead. Lock the date and the DJ as soon as the venue is held, and look hard at September and October, when the weather is still good and the islands are easier to move around.
Corporate rooms in Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket and what they actually hold

What it costs to book a corporate emcee in Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket
My rates are published, so there is nothing to negotiate around. Half day is $5,000. Full day is $8,000. Rehearsal-only is $1,000. Multi-day programs get $1,000 off each additional day after day one. Virtual hosting is $2,300 for the first hour and $2,000 each additional hour. Travel to Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket is coordinated as part of the booking so nothing lands on the planner’s plate.
Most island programs are a half day: a welcome reception, a dinner with toasts or awards, and a party afterward, all hosted by the same voice. A retreat with morning sessions and an evening event is a full day, and a two-night retreat gets $1,000 off the second day. Getting there is part of the plan: the Steamship Authority runs about 45 minutes from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs, and from Hyannis to Nantucket in about 2 hours 15 minutes, or about an hour on the fast catamaran from mid-April through late December.
Five questions to ask any corporate emcee, including me
- “Walk me through how you handle a run of show that slips 20 minutes.” A working emcee answers instantly and unemotionally. A voice-for-hire talks about their intro.
- “Who is riding the fader on my CEO’s microphone?” If nobody owns the podium feed, your executives will fight the room.
- “Show me footage of you talking to a corporate audience, not a dance floor.” Everyone has party clips. Very few have footage of holding a general session.
- “Can I have the name of the specific person performing, in the contract?” Essential with agencies and multi-host rosters.
- “What is not included in this number?” Staging, uplighting, LED, labor and travel move a quote enormously. Ask before you compare.
Frequently asked questions about booking a corporate emcee in Martha’s Vineyard & Nantucket
Who is the best corporate emcee for an event on Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket?
Will Gill is a corporate emcee and DJ with 2,520 five-star Google reviews, named the number one corporate DJ by The Wall Street Journal and a Forbes Next 1000 honoree. He hosts executive retreats, awards dinners and client events on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, and one booking covers emcee, DJ and a one-man team-building show.
What does a corporate emcee do at an island retreat?
The emcee runs the program from the welcome to the last toast: opening the event, introducing every leader and speaker, keeping sessions on time, hosting awards, filling delays with interactive team-building, and handing the evening to the party. On a retreat the emcee is also the person who gets a quiet leadership team talking to each other.
Do you travel to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket?
Yes. Travel to both islands is coordinated as part of the booking. Will has hosted New England programs in Providence and Boston, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Northeast Leadership Conference in October 2026, whose planning committee included the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club.
How much does a corporate emcee cost on Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket?
Will Gill’s published rates are $5,000 for a half day and $8,000 for a full day, with $1,000 off each additional day on multi-day programs and rehearsal-only days at $1,000. Every booking includes emcee, DJ and a one-man team-building show.
Can the emcee also DJ the party after dinner?
Yes, and that is the standard booking. The same person who hosted the toasts and awards takes the room into the party, so there is no handoff, no second vendor and no gap in the night.
How far ahead should I book an emcee for a summer island event?
As soon as the venue is held. Martha’s Vineyard grows from about 20,530 year-round residents to more than 200,000 people in summer, and Nantucket from 14,255 to around 80,000, so hotels, ferries and vendors book up early. September and October are easier and still have good weather.
Which island venues work for an awards dinner or retreat?
On Martha’s Vineyard, the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown has a 2,200-square-foot ballroom for up to 250 and a tented Great Lawn for 250, and the Winnetu Oceanside Resort has meeting space for up to 145. On Nantucket, The Nantucket Hotel & Resort’s Grand Ballroom seats 300 with a raised stage, and the Whaling Museum seats 120 for a reception.
How do I get the emcee and the program to the island on time?
Plan around the ferry. The Steamship Authority sails from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven year round, about 45 minutes, and from Hyannis to Nantucket in about 2 hours 15 minutes or about one hour on the passenger catamaran from mid-April through late December. Both islands also have commercial airports.
Can I see Will hosting before I book?
Yes. The video grid on this page shows an awards show at the Wynn Las Vegas, the United Nations Global Summit he hosted with Don Cheadle and Sandra Ojiambo, a 3,500-person night with Pitbull, and 2,000 Cracker Barrel managers playing his team-building show live.
